SJCC organised a two-day acting workshop for students of MA Cinema and Television, and MA Print and Electronic Journalism. The workshop was led by Bilas Chandrahasan Nair, a renowned actor and trainer with over 20 years of experience. He has performed in many national and international theatre festivals. Bilas shared his insights on concentration techniques, observation practices, and imagination exercises which help to mould an actor. The students were made to perform these exercises, bringing out their acting skills. The workshop included simple games that were played by the students to explore the area of communicating without words. Dialogue delivery in different modes was another interesting activity on the second day. He also discussed various acting methods and the specifics of acting for cinema. Additionally, he offered his thoughts on the relationship between acting and directing, emphasising the importance of continuous practice in both areas. From the responses of the students who participated in the workshop, it was clear that the sessions were quite helpful for them as media students.
