To commemorate SJCC's 20th anniversary, the Department of Animation & Design introduced an annual animation and design festival organized entirely by and for students. This fest serves as a platform for students to showcase their talents and creativity through animation film screenings, master classes, discussions, art and design exhibitions, and cultural events. Invitations are extended to academicians and industry professionals for master classes and discussions, with special animation film competitions exclusively for SJCC students. Organizing the fest allows students to enhance both their knowledge and organizational skills.
Every 28th October, in celebration of International Animation Day, the department hosts a grand celebration featuring creative competitions such as cosplay and face painting, alongside seminars, workshops, and art exhibitions, enriching the academic environment.
Through Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with animation companies like Toonz, the department facilitates regular industrial visits and one-month internships for students, integral parts of the curriculum. These experiences keep students abreast of the latest industry trends.
Annually, the department organizes live painting sessions attended by professionals, academicians, and selected students, providing invaluable learning opportunities on colour theories, materials, and techniques. Students are encouraged to make live drawings of various subjects, including visits to the zoo for live sketching, fostering their skills in drawing for animation and flipbook animations.
Established to nurture school students with an inclination for animation filmmaking, the Animation Academy offers drawing classes during vacations and hosts painting and drawing competitions for school students, guided by a faculty member from the department.
"The Clay" is an art exhibition showcasing sculptures and environmental arts created by students, particularly those in the BA Architectural Interior and Artistry programme. These students receive continuous training in clay modelling and environmental art, presenting their creations during the exhibition.
