At the National Short Film Festival held at St. Joseph College of Communication (SJCC), Arun K. David was honoured with the prestigious Golden Hornbill Award for his film “Night of Them.” The Silver Hornbill Award went to “My Father is Afraid of Water,” directed by Prateek Rajendra Srivastava, while Vighnesh Ennin’s Darshanam* was recognized as the third-best film. The award for Best Campus Film was presented to “Kruddhar” directed by Alan Alex Aji. Special jury mentions were awarded to Mohan Akash for his performance in My Father is Afraid of Water and Nibin George, cinematographer of Jeevi. The winners received cash prizes of ₹25,000, ₹15,000, and ₹10,000 respectively, along with a memento and certificate of merit. The Best Campus Film award carried a cash prize of ₹10,000 with a memento and certificate. The valedictory ceremony was graced by distinguished guests and dignitaries. Rev. Dr. Mathew Muriankari, Principal of SJCC, delivered the welcome address. The chief guest, renowned Sri Lankan filmmaker and screenwriter Prasanna Vithanage, delivered the keynote address. Premendra Mazumdar, jury member, film critic, General Secretary of FIPRESCI–India, and Vice President of FFSI, shared his reflections on the competing films, while director Vidhu Vincent, also a jury member, announced the award winners. The awards were jointly presented by Prasanna Vithanage, Premendra Mazumdar, Vidhu Vincent, Sunny Joseph (Dean of Media Studies and Cinematographer), Rev. Fr. Jophy Puthupparambil (Director, SJCC), Rev. Dr. Mathew Muriankari (Principal), Thomas Joseph (Vice Principal), Rev. Fr. Lipin Thundukulam, Rev. Dr. Jojin Elanjikkal, Nis Susan Mathew (Head, Department of Media Studies), and Anuvind S. (Festival Coordinator). Noble Peter, faculty member and General Convener of the Festival, delivered the vote of thanks, marking a memorable conclusion to a celebration of creativity, talent, and cinematic excellence.
