The most-awaited onam festival was celebrated with grandeur and exuberance at St. Joseph College of Communication on September 13, 2024, with the theme “Aarmadham”.The celebration began in the morning, at 10 am at the college ground with the traditional welcoming of Maveli, the mythical king in a vibrant procession. Students performed Pulikali, leading the way for Maveli’s grand arrival with Chendamelam, and everyone gathered at the central courtyard stage. Maveli in the presence of Fr Dr Mathew Muriankary, the Academic Director the celebration commenced with a formal function where Mr. Nevin Manoj, the chairman of the college union delivered the welcome speech and was inaugurated by the Executive Director of the college, Fr. Jophy Puthuparampu. The celebration was conducted under the leadership of Mr Vimal Murukesan, faculty coordinator, Nevin Manoj, the chairman of the college, Mr Sibin T Varghese, PRO and other faculty coordinators Mr Abhilash Karun P, Mr Vishnu C, and Mr Adhil M A. College hosted its highly anticipated Malayali Manga and Maran competition as part of the Onam celebration. The event, which highlighted Kerala’s traditional beauty and cultural charm, saw enthusiastic participation from students. Gayathri Santhosh, the BA Multimedia final year student and Jayees TS, B Com final year student won as Malayali Manga and Maran. Following the competition, a vibrant Onappattu competition filled the campus with the melodic essence of Kerala’s rich musical traditions. The event saw enthusiastic participation from various student groups. B Com won the first prize and BA Animation and Graphic Design won the second prize. The judging panel of the competitions included faculty members of every department.
