On August 30, 2024, the Department of Commerce at St. Joseph College of Communication conducted an impactful orientation program aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of drug use and promoting a drug-free campus. Held in the college's seminar hall, the event was organized by the Anti-Drugs Club for Commerce students. The program featured key speakers Fr. Giju Varghese, Director of Changanassery Social Service Society (CHASS), and Mr. Nitheen Chandra, Project Coordinator at ACCEPT IRCA, Punnapra. Their session, supported by SLCA Kerala and the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, as well as NISD, NCDAP, and NAPDDR, addressed the psychological and social factors contributing to substance abuse and offered preventive strategies. The principal of SJCC opened the session with a speech emphasizing the importance of creating a safe, drug-free environment for students. The speakers highlighted the concerning rise in youth drug misuse and the need for proactive prevention efforts. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Rosy Joseph, Head of the Department of Commerce. The session, attended by around 100 participants, successfully equipped students with crucial knowledge to combat drug abuse.
