Their unique perspectives and insights brought color and variety to the show, making it an engaging and inspiring experience for our listeners.
The ultimate goal of "Thought for the Day" was to empower our listeners with the confidence and positivity they need to take on the challenges of the day, and start their day off on a path of wellness and success. Founded by a group of dedicated visionaries with a passion for giving back to the community, Radio Media Village has been a beacon of hope for those in need. Since its inception, the founders of Radio Media Village has had a vision to extend beyond mere entertainment and knowledge updates to become a helping hand for those in need. With this goal in mind, the program "Thanal" was launched, which later evolved into "Sukritham". The program aimed to provide financial assistance to individuals struggling with chronic diseases due to lack of resources. SJCC students join the crew to support Sukritham charity ventures, leveraging their technical expertise to amplify the event's impact while also contributing to the production stages, from sound checks to lighting design.
Under Sukritham, patients or their family members are now invited to share their stories at the radio studio, which are then aired on radio, with the hope of receiving financial support from listeners. The program also publishes the account details of patients or trust groups helping them. Listeners can contribute by visiting the studio or donating directly to the given account numbers.
Through its two-hour live programs, Radio Media Village has raised approximately Rs. 2-2.5 lakhs, providing significant relief to patients' families. Since 2013, the radio has financially assisted hundreds of patients with heart disease, kidney failure, liver-related issues, accident victims, paralyzed patients, etc.
When the radio airs a live program featuring these cases, listeners are moved to contribute generously. In cases where patients require major surgeries or treatments that are financially out of reach for their families, Sukritham steps in by forming a charitable group called "Jeevan Raksha Samiti" in their gram panchayat.
The group, led by our former radio station Director Fr. Sebastian Punnaserry, conducts a "5-Hour Miracle" initiative. To support this noble initiative, a minimum contribution of 500 rupees is expected from every family willing to contribute. However, contributions of any amount are welcome, whether it's from financially affluent families or individuals who wish to donate more generously to this cause. They visit every home in the locality, collecting contributions using "bucket collection" and raising around Rs. 30-40 lakhs. This amount is then transferred directly to the patient's or their nominees' accounts.
As part of this process, our radio crew documents these events with their microphones, traveling to every corner of the local community. The ultimate goal is to ensure that no one dies due to lack of funds for treatment. Even now if someone notifies such difficulties, their case is verified and aired on the radio, along with their account number. Listeners can then transfer funds directly to their accounts.
To date, Radio Media Village has served as a helping hand to hundreds of patients and facilitated around Rs. 70 crores through this noble initiative.
